Lions’ rebuilding continues…
The Detroit Lions are due to announce the signing of recently released Redskins‘ tackle Jon Jansen. He was released on Friday after 9 seasons of hit and miss action.
Well, more hit than miss to be honest. When fit he was a guaranteed starter for the ‘Skins, but he’d been suffering from injuries recently and missed all but part of one game last season due to a broken ankle. It’s a shame that he’s gone so soon into a new contract, and you have to think that there was room in the cap to keep him on. Especially when you see how much the cap has gone up this year, and then you see that Heyer is likely to start now… that leaves me cold, and not expecting Portis to run right very often.
As a one-year signing for the Lions, I’m interested in terms. If fit, there’s a lot he can offer and he could be a great signing. Of course, he could be a big cap-eating bust too. But we’ll see. I’m not sure I’m ready to move them up from 4th in my predictions yet, but I’m certainly keeping and eye on them.
As a Redskins’ fan, I’ll miss him and I wish him well. I’ll also say thanks, as he’s given many years of good service.
