If you’ve not been to Wembley Stadium before, then the first thing to say is that you’re in for a treat: It’s a really great stadium.
Drinks
However, if you’re imagining sitting in your seat munching and drinking the the 2.5 – 3 hours it’ll take for the Pats and Bucs to work things out then you’d better come loaded.

Graham and I were at the stadium last week for the England v Belarus World Cup Qualifier. And though we were in a box, and got champagne and beer via hospitality (yeah, it’s a tough life) we did take a moment to snatch a look at the food and drink prices.

As you can see, they’re not cheap.

Hot Dogs are also £5 a pop

Drinks are up from last year to a whopping £4. Now I stay in hotels a lot, so have inflated values of what a pint is worth and wouldn’t balk at £3.50. But £4 is high. And as Graham pointed out to me, it’s not even for a full pint!

Food is equally expensive, but there’s a lot more atmosphere and fun to be had from eating outside of the stadium anyway: Either along Wembley Way at one of the many stalls, in the Tailgate party, or even at the McDonalds which is near Wembley Park tube station. In fact there are several shops and takeaways along that road… if you can avoid getting sucked down the wide steps and onto Wembley way go and have an explore. If you can make it to The Green Man pub, then it looks rocking (Graham and I popped in last year and it looked like great fun.)

In terms of facilities though, you can’t beat the stadium. With wide walkways and with shops, bars and toilets dotted liberally around they chances are you’ll queue for less time than you’re expecting. Beer, wine, soft drinks and food can be taken back to your seat too (which isn’t the case for soccer matches) so don’t hesitate to pop out during a change of possession, challenge or other game-pausing event. You’ll be back with your tasty beverage in plenty of time.

So there we are. Have a great day, enjoy it, boo that Pats and cheer the Bucs. But you might want to eat before you get into Wembley itself.

(NB. These prices were recorded on the 14th October 2009, and were checked on the 25th October. If they’ve gone up since, please let us know)
