NFL News Round-up Saturday 12th Sep
Oakland Raiders
Richard Seymour has still not reported into the Raiders. He has now reportedly been issued with a letter threatening season long suspension unless he reports by Tuesday. There would seem to be more to the story than meets the eye, but I guess we will have to wait until we hear Seymour speak.
Minnesota Vikings
An appeals court has cleared Pat and Kevin Williams (no relation) to play in Sunday’s clash with the Cleveland Browns, and for the rest of the season.
The NFL was attempting to suspend them due to anti-doping violations. While the Williams’s were clearly happy with the ruling, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was not saying in a radio interview at New York station WFAN-AM –
“It is putting in jeopardy a drug program that has been put in front of the entire world as being one of the highest standards in all of sports. It puts in jeopardy that players in Minnesota in any sport—this could affect other sports—are subject to a different standard than in the other 49 states. You recognize that it is a fairness question for all the athletes.”
Drugs rules are important in sport and I can see his point. It would be a shame if the image of the sport suffered in the way cycling did in recent years.
