NFL News Round-up Thursday 17th Sep
New York Jets
Former head coach Eric Mangini has been finned $125,000 by the NFL for his part in the Brett Favre injury cover up last season. Favre should have been placed on injury reserve at the end of last season due to his torn bicep tendon, and apparently discussed sitting some games out. As it was, he played (not so well, as it turned out), kept his streak alive, but left the Jets in the off-season.
Favre has had surgery since, and is in a different position with the Vikings and their strong running game. But further to his recent comments, it might be something playing on his mind.
Seattle Seahawks
Linebacker Leroy Hill will be out until “at least November” as he heads for surgery on his groin injury, sustained during the ‘Hawks shutout of the St. Louis Rams. With division rivals the 49ers up next in San Francisco, this hurts the defensive unit. Special Teamer Will Herring will step in.
Lofa Tatupu has also been sitting out practice, but is expected to play. We watch closely though.
Cincinatti Bengals
Everyone’s favourite receiver Chad Ochocinco has said he plans a Lambeau Leap this weekend against Green Bay. I really, really, really hope he does as I think it would be great viewing. Of course, it does mean that the Bengals would have to score a touchdown, which might be a stretch.
It’s easy to dislike the guy, or wish he’d keep his mouth shut, but I feel the sport as a whole is better for some characters.
