Although there are several teams still to decide, with two games gone the 49ers have announced their starter at quarterback for the 2009 season.

Mike Singletary has announced that it’s Shaun Hill and not Alex Smith. Looking at the performances over the last two weeks and considering Hill’s showings last year, it’s not really that surprising. But I like Smith, and feel for him. I wouldn’t wish injury on any player, but I do hope that if Smith gets a chance this year – for whatever reason – then he makes the most of it.

We’re still watching with interest the developing situations in Cleveland and Detroit.
