NFL International Series 2010: Wembley Watch – 13 Weeks to Go
The 49ers
John York (the team owner) with Mike Singletary, Alex Smith and Vernon Davis have been doing the publicity tour for the NFL UK game. Tickets were snapped up again and York had this tantalising statement:
“There is easily enough of a fan base over here to stage two games a season. I couldn’t tell you when that would be. I can see it both ways. I’m not sure what will be first, a Super Bowl over here or an NFL team, but they both seem likely to happen.”
Great stuff! The prospect of a London based NFL team is not only possible, but would seem to be inevitable (eventually, and when the league sorts out the CBA). For now, this is the last game booked for Wembley and the UK, so I’d settle for another 4 years being agreed first. Walk, then run.
Smith and Davis are in the final years of their contracts. I want Alex Smith to do well – that’s no secret here, so I’m wishing the best for him. And more selfishly, if one QB is going to light up Wembley, I fancy Smith over Kyle Orton. Sorry Kyle.
At the Broncos…
Tim Tebow (who the court is out on at the moment here at MacTalksNFL) has signed a solid five year deal with the Broncos. The impact he has over the first few weeks of the season could be interesting. We await… Receiver Demaryius Thomas is now the only unsigned pick. They could do with sorting that quickly and getting him in camp.
Elvis Dumervil is also getting paid, and with Jarvis Moss looking good settling into the OLB position they could have a good corp of linebackers.
Bad news in the backfield though, with Knowshon Moreno and Corell Buckhalter both hurting themselves in training. Moreno could miss a fair bit of training camp. They will hope not, and we’ll keep an eye on that.
That’s it for now… more next week!
