JaMarcus Russell … Bust Again

Posted: July 6, 2010 at 11:37 pm by Andrew in Gossip and Rumours

Honestly, I don’t like having continual goes at this guy but he really does make it very easy. And images like this one will not help any chance he has of getting his career on track any good at all.

If he has problems, then I hope he gets help. If there was ever a man that needed good advice – JMR is the one. This may be a wake-up call for him and though I’ve been mean in the past, I wouldn’t wish him harm or trouble. And not just because he’s bigger than me. He’s done as a footballer, but hopefully not as a person.

So Long Moose and Bruce

Posted: June 11, 2010 at 9:31 am by Andrew in Gossip and Rumours, Pre-Season, Video

With the average NFL career being less than four seasons, when someone’s spent 14 years they deserve a mention.

Muhsin Muhammad retired yesterday. He leaves the game ranked 20th on career receiving yards and having spent the vast majority of his year with one team, the Carolina Panthers. He was selected in the second round of the 1996 draft. This year’s second round pick – Jimmy Clausen – was just 8 back then.

Take care Moose, be well.

14 seasons you say? Isaac Bruce will see your 14 and raise you 2 additional season. Likewise the 20th career placing… Bruce is 3rd on the all time career yards and spent thirteen years with the Rams, helping them to Super Bowl victory for the 1999 season.

After two years a 49er, he retires a Ram. His club will honour him by retiring the number 80 in the game against Carolina later this year.

Again, be well.

Alex Smith, BBC Super Bowl Pundit

Posted: January 29, 2010 at 11:13 am by Andrew in Gossip and Rumours

Well this is a piece of good news.

Alex Smith, 49ers Quarterback

Alex Smith, 49ers' Quarterback

I’ve always liked Alex Smith (In fact my first though on hearing this years’ Wembley game teams was “I’ll get to see Alex Smith!”) for reasons I can’t fully define. He’s an OK player, but seems to have a great attitude to the game and the team. He restructured his contract after injury and has willingly competed for his place and I think it’s that attitude that I can get behind.

After spending his first two seasons as the youngest QB in the league, he’s grown into the role and I hope to see him do well next year. Certainly at Wembley, where they 49ers are likely to see strong support.

How good he is as a pundit remains to be seen! But we wish him well and hope he enjoys his trips to the UK.

It’s The 49ers and Broncos!

Posted: January 15, 2010 at 7:40 pm by Andrew in Gossip and Rumours, Team News

The rumours regarding the 49ers were right, but I can’t recall having read many comments about it being the Broncos…

But they’ll be there on the 31st October at Wembley stadium. And we’ll probably (hopefully!) be there again.

Chris Johnson will be league MVP… so says Chris Johnson

Posted: January 15, 2010 at 12:38 pm by Andrew in Gossip and Rumours

A topic from the archive.

15th January, 2010 — As we thought, way back when, Chris Johnson’s prospect of being League MVP were likely to be hampered by Quarterbacks getting the nod, and this was completely the case when the votes were counted and CJ had none.

However, he’s made up for it by being the only unanimous 2009 All-Pro selection. So well done to Chris Johnson. He had a great season; was entertaining to watch and his race to set records was enthralling to the end. As one of only 6 2,000 yard players, we’ll be hoping he can keep his form going. Something that eluded a lot of the others. But he’s young and he’s talented. If he hit 2000 yards next year, who’d be surprised if he didn’t get the MVP?

Good luck to him.

2010 International Series

Posted: January 4, 2010 at 4:26 pm by Craig in Gossip and Rumours, NFL

It’s round about this time of year when us folk of the UK begin to get REAL excited about the NFL. Why you ask? No, not the play-offs… It’s only a few weeks before we get the e-mail about Wembley tickets going on sale for the International series, that’s why!

Although we don’t know what teams will be heading over, the chance to see a live NFL game isn’t something that comes around every day (only once a year I’m afraid, kind of like Christmas except there’s no fat dude wearing red – unless the Cardinals turn up). The buzz is amazing, and considering the Patriots v Buccaneers game sold out in 72 hours, I’m expecting the same thing to happen this year. Luckily I got my interest registered early on. Now Christmas rarely comes twice a year, so pinch me because I must be dreaming, but the talk is that we’re getting two games this year!

You can guarantee that at one, if not both of the games us guys at MAC will be meeting up for a few beers and a bit of banter which makes the game all the better. As the old joke goes… A Redskins fan, Miami fan, and Ravens fan walk into a pub. You’ll probably get to see the outcome later!

Anyway, enough ranting from me. What games would you guys want to see at Wembley this year?

Charles Woodson donates $2,000,000 to a Children’s Hospital

Posted: November 28, 2009 at 12:14 pm by Andrew in Gossip and Rumours

So maybe I’m feeling soppy, maybe this has been adequately covered already, but I couldn’t help be impressed on hearing that shutdown corner Woodson had donated a sizable sum of money to a newly opened children’s hospital. In a sport that can receive so much negative press it’s easy to forget how much good a lot of players do in their charity and community works and this is a fine example of that.

We all know what a danger he is on the field, but it appears that away from it he’s not just a good guy he’s one of the best. And for that, Charles, we at Mac Talks NLF salute you and wish you well… though not against our teams.

San Francisco 49ers – Can they go from nowhere to the Super Bowl?

Posted: October 3, 2009 at 7:30 pm by Graham in Gossip and Rumours

Those who have been following the predictions will know that I fancied the 49ers to do good things from before the start of the season.  They seemed like a team that were quietly working hard.  There were no reports of upset on the run up to pre-season and other than the Michael Crabtree saga, there has been little to worry us since.

Now, I am a gambling/trading man and before the start of the season you could get the 49ers at odds of 120 (119/1).  In fact in one market someone has already made £7,000 trading on this bet before we are even half way through the season!

Favre Looks to Be Just What the Vikings Need

Posted: September 2, 2009 at 10:33 am by Graham in Gossip and Rumours

I quite enjoyed the whole Brett Favre saga over the off season, but I know many didn’t.  To me it filled the holes in the news stories quite well and smoothed the frustration of the wait for the start of the season.

Cowboys are “Heavier than metal”

Posted: June 26, 2009 at 9:25 am by Andrew in Gossip and Rumours

Something a little different today…

Dallas Linemen Marc Colombo (vocals), Cory Procter (drums) and Leonard Davis (bass) are 3 of the 4-strong heavy metal band Free Reign who have now been signed to label Riot Entertainment and will have their debut album out later this year. Guitarist Justin Chapman sees out the lineup.
