Week 10, 2010: Detroit Lions @ Buffalo Bills
Nov 13th
This week I’ll be taking a look at two teams who have impressed me so far this season, but might not have the records to show it. Yes, I’m talking about the 2-6 Detroit Lions who are taking on the 0-8 Buffalo Bills.

Ralph Wilson Stadium
The Detroit Lions were abysmal 2 years ago. Let’s not sugar coat it, they played some bad football. They went 0-16 because of it. It was at this point that the powers that be hired Jim Schwartz to take the reigns and lead the club out of this embarrassing slump. 2 years on and the record doesn’t look much better, but they are playing some excellent football. You can see the turn around in the team since Schwartz came in and he’s making all the right moves. His first pick as the Lions Head Coach in the 2009 draft was Matthew Stafford, and he is looking every bit as good as he was touted to be. Injuries have hampered him this season (and the end of last season), but when he is healthy he is a game changer. Unfortunately we won’t see him again this season so the QB job goes to Shaun Hill once more – and he’s non too shabby himself. When he has played he has played well. The Lions are very unlucky to not have a winning record this year. At the very least they should be on 3-5 if not for a dubious decision that disallowed a touchdown late in the game against the Chicago Bears. That would have improved their record, and also added another touchdown to Calvin Johnson’s tally (currently 8 for the season). He really is the shining light in this offence at the moment. More >
NFL 2010 Week 10 Predictions
Nov 10th
Week 10, and an early start for us thanks to Thursday’s Ravens at Falcons match.
Yet again there are some great divisional matchups. We have the NFC East facing off with the poor (hehehe) Cowboys travelling to the Giants and then on Monday night the Eagles in Washington. Other NFC match-ups include the Panthers taking on the Bucs in the South and in the North the Vikings against the Bears.
In the AFC there are divisional match-ups between the Texans and Jaguars as well as the Chiefs in Denver and there is also the mouth-watering Patriots in Pittsburgh, and Titans at the Dolphins. It should be a good week.
There are 14 games again this week. For a list of the games, visit http://www.nfl.com/schedules.
Dallas Cowboys Forget to Renew Dallascowboys.com
Nov 10th
So the Dallas Cowboys had another problem to add to their growing list this week. They forgot to renew their own domain name!
As website owners we thought this was quite funny, I bet their IT people are feeling some heat though.

If The Play-Offs Started Tomorrow…

Just how surprised would we be with the teams there?
The AFC Would shape us as follows, ranked in descending order:
- Baltimore Ravens
- New York Jets
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Tennessee Titans
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- New England Patriots
There’s little doubt with the season just over halfway through that the AFC is generally stronger than the NFC and that list shows this very clearly. The Colts are also just a game away and can’t be ruled out either.
If there’s one team with a question mark there, it’s the Kansas City Chiefs. Although they’re atop the [relatively] weak AFC West, I’m not sure they can stay there all season. When you look at the teams they’ve played though, their schedule has worked strongly in their favour – they’ve played only one team of the twelve I have making the post-season here (the Colts) and they lost that. In this scenario, I think the Patriots would be more than happy to be heading to Kansas for Wildcard weekend.

Results, Week 9 2010
Nov 9th
With three games going to overtime and 8 games in total decided by 6 points or less, this week was so close in many ways. In others, it was surprising, and I think everyone everywhere got caught out with the Browns so comprehensively beating the Patriots and to a lesser extent the Eagles edging out the Colts.

Week 9, 2010: San Diego Chargers @ Houston Texans
Nov 4th
Talk about the meeting of two frustrating teams!
Here at mactalksnfl.co.uk I think we all want the Houston Texans to do well – they’re a team that’s easy to root for and are particularly impressive offensively. But they’re as infuriating as a team can be in terms of consistency. Beating the Colts on opening weekend? Fantastic. Going down heavily to the Cowboys and Giants… not so much.

NFL 2010 Week 9 Predictions
Nov 4th
Week 9, and some great divisional matchups this week.
The Bucs visit the Falcons – the winner will go top of the NFC South. The Saints are at the Panthers, looking to stay in touch.
In the AFC South, the Chiefs can cement their lead with a win over the second place Raiders. And in the AFC North the Steelers take on the Bengals.
Elsewhere, the Jets will look to bounce back from their poor showing last week when they travel to Detroit. The Ravens and Dolphins match-up and the Cowboys travel to Green Bay. You get the feeling Dallas could turn it around at any moment, and they remain a dangerous opponent.
So it’s not easy this week, and we’re coming off a bad week as it is. Let’s see…

Week 9, 2010: Kansas City Chiefs @ Oakland Raiders
Nov 4th
The Chiefs visit the Oakland Coliseum for a Week Nine match-up with the Raiders in what will be a surprise table-topping battle in the AFC West.

The Running Game
Both teams go against the grain of what many expect of successful teams in the modern NFL, with their powerful running game taking priority over the more favoured passing game of more heavily-fancied teams. They have done this so successfully that they have left two highly pass-oriented teams, San Diego - the no.1 ranked overall and pass offense in the NFL – and Denver, trailing in their wake within the division. We’re not having a good year. We have flashes, but speaking personally this is my worst record since I started doing this. Still… second half of the season is here. Let’s see if we can step up a bit!

NFL International Series: The Good and Bad of 2010
Nov 1st
So it’s all over for another year (or maybe longer) and after a long day, which we thoroughly enjoyed (other than a few minor complaints, see below), what memories will we take away?
The Good
The Stadium
Let’s start with the obvious! Wembley is a seriously impressive stadium, but when decked out for an NFL match it looks even better. I’m talking about inside the stadium itself rather than some of the surrounding area, which is still a work in progress. It’s truly a credit to the country.
