NFL International Series – Denver Broncos @ San Francisco 49ers – Prediction
Oct 27th
The time is finally here! This is not just a regular season game to us NFL fans here in the UK, this is like Christmas time…err…on Halloween. These International Series games at our national stadium Wembley have meant so much to us, we know we are going to love this one and we also hope there are many more to come.

Mike Singletary
I had been unsure if this years UK game at was going to be as close as we had all hoped. However, it seems that the San Francisco 49ers are on the up and Denver are heading in quite the opposite direction.
The Denver Broncos travel to London on Friday, electing to get their prep in at home before taking in the London sights and distractions. You can catch up with their movements here http://blog.denverbroncos.com/jsaccomano/london-calling-2/
I caught up with the Denver v Oakland game last night, I had been warned by Andrew that the first half was a bit of a horror show and it really was. Denver’s defence had more holes in it than my first car! It wasn’t just the defence either, Mac favourite – Kyle ‘I stole my hair from the 80′s’ Orton didn’t have much joy leading the offensive charge and was under more pressure than Gordon Brown was to smile during the election build up.
NFL International Series 2010: Wembley Watch – Update 9pm, Monday 25th

NFL at Wembley... Not Long Now
The 49ers have arrived and are settling into London and the UK timezone for a good number of days ahead of Sunday’s game. Yesterday Alex Smith underwent some tests on his shoulder, but it’s still not known at this point if he’ll be able to play or not.
If he can’t, expect to see some serious time spent running the ball. The Broncos gave up 328 yards on the ground against the Oakland Raiders this week, a number which… well, wow. If the 49ers can get their young offensive line to create some seams, Frank Gore could have another great day and possible his third consecutive 100 yard game. If that’s the case (and I know there’s a lot of ‘ifs’ here) then backup QB David Carr won’t be asked to win the game, just not to lose it… something which he didn’t manage this past week.
Week 6, 2010: New York Jets @ Denver Broncos
Oct 14th
I know we take a look at the Broncos and 49ers every week as part of our Wembley Watch series, but I’m not sure that we’ve take a pre-match look at any of Denver’s matches. Well that changes this week!
The New York Jets travel to Denver in buoyant mood and form as after a week one (narrow) loss to the Ravens they’ve gone on a four game streak, beating each of their divisional rivals and then the Vikings to take a strong position in the AFC.
NFL 2010 Week 6 Guest Predictions
Oct 13th
Hi, I’m Chris and I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan (don’t boo!). I first started watching American Football at about 6 years old when Channel Four here in the UK used to air an early morning highlight show at the weekends. At the time the Cowboys were just putting together the roster that would go on to pick up three Super Bowl rings in four seasons. I quickly got hooked watching Emmit Smith avoiding tacklers and moving through holes in defences created by Moose Johnston while being amazed at the almost telepathic connection Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin seemed to have. I still continue to follow the Cowboys despite numerous let-downs and a constant barrage of abuse I get from all my Dallas-hating friends!
I’m taking a look at all the NFL games this week and making my predictions on each one.
Game Predictions
Miami Dolphins @ Green Bay Packers
Usually, I’d pick the Packers straight away for this one but, with doubts surrounding Clay Matthews, Jermichael Finley and Aaron Rodgers, I’m not so sure. Losing Ryan Grant has made the Packers offense one-dimensional and having the two key men in the passing game banged up will further hurt their chances, while the defense looked lost against Washington after their sack-machine Matthews departed. Miami’s main concern will be the performance of their special teams after they were destroyed by the Patriots in Week Four, but a new special teams coach and a bye-week to work on their problems could have sorted them out. Clay Matthews playing will be the key to whether Green Bay win or lose this one.
Prediction: Green Bay

NFL International Series 2010: Wembley Watch – 4 Weeks To Go
Oct 3rd
We’re in October now! The NFL’s International Series 2010 Wembley game is getting closer and closer and in four weeks time (to the hour) it’ll all be done and we’ll be heading home. (Actually, we’ll probably be at The Green Man or some other nearby bar). Both teams were on early today, and with neither game blacked-out here in the UK I watched a half each of the games. How did they shape up?
Denver Broncos
I watched the second half of this game.
My fantasy match-up this week had me as 15 point dogs but with Chris Johnson on my opponent’s team projected to make 23 points. That always sounded high, but come half-time I was expecting to find out that he was injured due to the relatively small number of yards he’d put up. Like most viewers, I spent most of the second half just waiting for him to bust one out, but it never happened as the Broncos defence had him locked down.

NFL International Series 2010: Wembley Watch – 5 Weeks To Go
Sep 27th
Week 3 is in the books for the two teams who’ll be gracing Wembley Stadium here in the UK later this year, so it’s time for this week’s Wembley Watch.
San Francisco
Oh dear, there is big trouble in San Fran. The Chiefs took them to school last night in an embarrassing outing. Craig fancied the Chiefs when we looked at the games last week and this turns out to have been a good move. Offensively the 49ers couldn’t get any of their playmakers involved at all and paid the price. The first 11 possessions producing only 3 points, 5 sacks allowed, untold quarterback hits – the rookie-laden line struggled all night. Very poor.

NFL International Series 2010: Wembley Watch – 6 Weeks to Go
Sep 21st
Oooh, 6 weeks!
Not long at all now until the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers run out at Wembley Stadium here in the UK as part of the NFL’s International Series. Those of you paying attention will realise that it’s less than 6 weeks by two days, but we had to wait as the 49ers were the Monday Primetime game this week.
So, it was home debuts for both teams last night with both teams 0-1 going into the weekend. Good showings from both teams, but different results…
Denver Broncos
Demaryius Thomas came in and make a big splash last night, showing the strength, speed and ability that made him a first round draft pick. Kyle Orton showed great control of the offence and the defence also turned up as the Broncos subdued the Seahawks to take the game.

NFL International Series 2010: Wembley Watch – 7 Weeks to Go
Sep 13th
It’s been a fantastic opening weekend in the NFL, and here in the UK we’ve been staying up late and enjoying the great games that have been on offer. How did the two Wembley-bound teams get on?
San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco took the trip up the west coast to Seattle for this divisional matchup, and boy was this ugly (for them) The Seahawks had their way offensively and Alex Smith‘s two interceptions both cost points. Neither side of the team really turned up in a match that would have been a good way to state their intentions for the season.
The Seahawks surprised a lot of people (including us here) but this was still a disappointing San Francisco performance. More >
NFL International Series 2010: Wembley Watch – 11 Weeks to Go
Aug 16th
So pre-season is underway and last night the 49ers beat a soft Colts and the Broncos lost against the Bengals. Both games were away, so the rookies won’t get their first taste of Candlestick Park or Mile High until next week.
With just 11 weeks until these NFL teams grace the UK’s shores we’re still watching with interest. But apart from the first games, what else has happened?
San Francisco 49ers
I spoke last week about the rookies coming good in the offensive line. Not such good news it that centre Eric Hietmann has broken his leg and could miss up to 8 weeks.
On the other side of the ball Scott McKillop is probably out for the season after tearing his ACL. Rookie NaVorro Bowman will hope to continue to improve to get play time with Takeo Spikes and Patrick Willis, who was last season’s Alumni Linebacker of the Year. Staying on Defence, Taylor Mays has been moving slowly up the depth chart and may break the first team in the next few weeks. He’s one to watch in the pre-season games.

NFL International Series 2010: Wembley Watch – 13 Weeks to Go
Aug 2nd
The 49ers
John York (the team owner) with Mike Singletary, Alex Smith and Vernon Davis have been doing the publicity tour for the NFL UK game. Tickets were snapped up again and York had this tantalising statement:
“There is easily enough of a fan base over here to stage two games a season. I couldn’t tell you when that would be. I can see it both ways. I’m not sure what will be first, a Super Bowl over here or an NFL team, but they both seem likely to happen.”
Great stuff! The prospect of a London based NFL team is not only possible, but would seem to be inevitable (eventually, and when the league sorts out the CBA). For now, this is the last game booked for Wembley and the UK, so I’d settle for another 4 years being agreed first. Walk, then run.
Smith and Davis are in the final years of their contracts. I want Alex Smith to do well – that’s no secret here, so I’m wishing the best for him. And more selfishly, if one QB is going to light up Wembley, I fancy Smith over Kyle Orton. Sorry Kyle.
