First Look 2010… NFC North
Jun 3rd
There are no easy divisions to predict but the NFC North is one of the toughest. Last year neither Graham or I saw the Vikings being as good as they turned out to be. Neither of us saw the North sending two teams into the post-season either but it turned out to be the case. Although we all called the Lions to prop up, the Bears were a disappointment and again caused us to get it wrong.
Let’s take an early look ahead to the 2010 NFL season…

Free Agency Begins… Big Signings Start
Mar 7th
This year’s Free Agency period has started, and players are on the move big time already. Here are some of the moves that have caught our eye so far…
Nate Burleson to the Lions. This is either a stroke of genius or a real stretch, but Stafford needs receiving options. They’ve also added Kyle Vanden Bosch to their defensive line.
Karlos Dansby is now a Dolphin. Miami have made several changes already on the defensive side but Dansby would be a good addition in any case. They’ve also signed Chad Pennington for another year who is a good option as a backup.
In New York, the Jets and Giants have both improved their secondaries with Antrel Rolle joining the Giants and Antonio Cromartie heading to the Jets. Rolle becomes the highest paid safety in NFL history in the process.

Results, Week 1

Thursday, 10th September
Tennesse @ Pittsburgh, 10-13
This was a tight, tight game and the Titans can walk out of Heinz Field with their heads held high. Well, maybe apart from Rob Bironas. Chris Johnson lit it up a couple of times, as did the Ben/Santonio connection. But the real stars were both defensive units, certainly against the run.
Anyway, we both called this one correctly.
Sunday, 13th September
Jacksonville @ Indiana, 12-14
Well, we thought that this would be a close game and so it proved! Jones-Drew looked good as the focal point of the Jags attack, and the Colts did enough but will need to show us more if we’re going to believe in them this year.
Detroit @ New Orleans, 27-45
Drew Brees put on another passing clinic, completing 6 TD passes to 5 receivers. Matt Stafford wasn’t quite as impressive, but did get the Lions moving when the running game was shut down. On the plus side, the Lions did put up 27 points which is more than in any game last year. There were signs, but there’s still work to do.
Tuesday’s NFL News Round-up
Sep 8th
It looks like it is quarterback news day today…
Detroit Lions
This is the news I was itching to see – Matthew Stafford is the Lions starting quarterback. It’s not that I have anything against Daunte Culpepper, it’s just that on a personal level I want to see what Stafford can do and how he progresses through the season.
From the Lions point of view I think it is the right choice. It is a symbol of a fresh start, and that is something the whole of Detroit need right now. 2008 saw the team and the citys biggest industry on its knees.
I am very tempted to pick a Lions win in this weeks predictions, but I think that is coming more from the heart than the head.

So Far In Pre-season (2)…
Aug 24th
This isn’t a complete look at everything that happened this week. Just some tit-bits to keep us going as week two has now wrapped up.
So Far In Pre-Season: Quarterbacks
Aug 18th
This is more of a digest than a full article, as the first week is out of the way and there have been a mixture of expected and interesting scores. None of which we’re particularly interested in at this point.
However, a lot of QBs from starter to third string and beyond got some playtime under their belts. Let’s see how the starters and positional battles are shaping up…
Second Look… NFC North
Jul 19th
In my first look at the NFC North I called it one of the toughest in the NFL to make a prediction on. I’ll stand by that, as I’m still having trouble with it.
But let’s see how things stand today…
4 Things I Want To Learn From Training Camp
Jul 17th
With NFL Training Camps just a few weeks away, we’ll soon be learning more about most of the teams.
These are four questions that I’m hoping to learn more about. Because they’re interesting, and because they’ll likely affect my NFL predictions.
Matthew Stafford: Will he be Lions Starting Quarterback?
Jun 4th
With the end of the Detroit Lions organized team activities the eyes of the press were still firmly on No.1 draft pick Matthrew Stafford.
For those that haven’t seen it, have a look at this great display Stafford gave on ‘Late night with Jimmy Fallon’…
First Look… NFC North
May 12th
Three teams had a big advantage last year, having the Lions in their division. The Lions, to give them a little credit, actually had some close inter-divisional games. Against the Vikings in particular, where they lost the two matchups by a total of only 6 points (two of those points were on the infamous Orlovsky safety… d’oh!)
