If The Play-Offs Started Tomorrow…
Nov 9th
Just how surprised would we be with the teams there?
The AFC Would shape us as follows, ranked in descending order:
- Baltimore Ravens
- New York Jets
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Tennessee Titans
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- New England Patriots
There’s little doubt with the season just over halfway through that the AFC is generally stronger than the NFC and that list shows this very clearly. The Colts are also just a game away and can’t be ruled out either.
If there’s one team with a question mark there, it’s the Kansas City Chiefs. Although they’re atop the [relatively] weak AFC West, I’m not sure they can stay there all season. When you look at the teams they’ve played though, their schedule has worked strongly in their favour – they’ve played only one team of the twelve I have making the post-season here (the Colts) and they lost that. In this scenario, I think the Patriots would be more than happy to be heading to Kansas for Wildcard weekend.

First Look 2010… NFC East
May 20th
I did pretty badly with this last year, predicting that the Giants and Eagles would go into the post-season as winners and wildcard respectively. In the end, the Cowboys surprised and the Giants disappointed to swap places from my predictions. Unfortunately the ‘Skins did no better than I thought they would and were propping up the division.
Let’s see what’s happening for 2010…
Second Look… NFC East
Jul 2nd
It’s pretty quiet from all quarters, so not a huge amount of news since my First Look. But let’s see if there’s anything happening that’s worth re-evaluating our position at all.
First Look… NFC West
May 16th
For a few years the NFC West was the Seahawks‘ to lose, and they ambled into the post-season on the back of 6 easy games a season. Things have changed a bit since then, with the 49ers and the Cardinals both making progress (you could say more about last year’s Cardinals but I suspect it was a one-off) and the ‘Hawks having an awful year last year.
First Look… NFC North
May 12th
Three teams had a big advantage last year, having the Lions in their division. The Lions, to give them a little credit, actually had some close inter-divisional games. Against the Vikings in particular, where they lost the two matchups by a total of only 6 points (two of those points were on the infamous Orlovsky safety… d’oh!)
Lions will make playoffs…
May 12th
At his official blog last week, Kevin Smith announced that whilst he couldn’t predict how many games the Lions would win next year they will “definitely make the playoffs”. Well, you’ve got to love his attitude. If not his realism.
First Look… NFC South
May 8th
On paper the NFC South has the toughest schedule of any division. They’re matched against the ever-tough NFC East and the AFC East who all (well, nearly all) had really good 2008 seasons. Whilst the schedule strength is measured against last year’s performance, it’s still an indicator worth paying attention to.
First Look… NFC East

So the first thing to say is that it’s way to early to make any sort of accurate predictions. Way, way, way too early. Most of the players are at home, or working out in small groups. The rookies are starting minicamps and there are plenty of factors that will come into play before the pre-season, let alone the regular season.
However, there are odds posted and it’s worth getting our thoughts together at this stage, so let’s check them out!
